HALF-PINT POND
This pond is so named
because of its very small size. It is designed as a kid's pond and is stocked
with Georgia Giants, HSB, and Gambusia minnows. The pond was renovated in the
fall of 2005 using my small 450 Case dozer. An ongoing experiment is underway
on the growth rates, aggressiveness, and sustainability of the Georgia Giant.
For a complete description of this experiment see the section on Georgia Giants
and more on the experiment
here.
UPDATE JUNE 2007:
As can be seen in the above
picture, there isn't much, if any,
"freeboard" in Half-pint's dam
structure. Because of this and concern over
continuing summer drought conditions which have
been with East Texas the past several summers, I
decided to raise the dam height another 2 feet and
the water level, when it rains again about 12 to
18 inches. This little project was accomplished in
one day with my small dozer...see picture below
and note the soil compactors (cows) at work
providing the finishing touches.
