 Bream,
perch, sunfish, or whatever you wish to call them
form the base of the food chain for predator fish
in the ponds. Copper nosed Bluegill (CNBG) and
Redear Sunfish (
RES
) are stocked in Nova and Walden ponds. Native BG which have been
resident on the ranch for an estimated 75 years
are stocked in Methuselah pond.
RES
are stocked only in Nova pond and have not really shown themselves much
since initial stocking several years ago.
Nova
pond produces some of the best CNBG to be found
anywhere. Ten inch fish are common and several
over 10 have been caught as pictured. One CNBG
estimated at 13 inches was caught spring of ’06
but currently has escaped being photographed, a
fact which should be remedied in spring of ’07.
Texas
Rio's, a fish native to Texas hill country, is
currently under evaluation for stocking in one of
the ponds.

caught.

June 21, 2008:
Four spring full moons and
four straight CNBG over 10 inches each taken
during the full moon. The 10 1/2 inch fish below was caught during an after dark
feeding frenzy resulting in the poor quality of
the photo.
